Symposium Rushing to Revolution? Open Access Models for Humanities Journals Esther Op de Beek, PhD (Leiden University, Treasurer Tijdschrift voor Tijdschriftstudies) Who’s Afraid of Bits and Bytes? The Digitization of the Dutch Journal for Periodical Research Abstract TS·>Tijdschrift voor tijdschriftstudies is a Dutch digital scientific journal for periodical research. Founded in 1997, and generously subsidised by the Lucas-Ooms Foundation (LOF) for Dutch Magazines and Magazine Journalism ever since, it aims not only to provide its readers with peer-reviewed articles, but also to boost periodical research by functioning as a platform for the reflection upon journals, its contents, its institutional networks and its (digital) conservation. Despite its convinced transformation to bits and bytes, TS·> is struggling to find a proper business model. I will shortly outline the actions taken by the editorial board during the process of digitization and the financial challenges that remain. Biography Esther Op de Beek works as an assistant professor in Modern Dutch Literature at Leiden University. She received her PhD from the Radboud University Nijmegen. She published on the Dutch glossy magazine Avenue and on literary book reviewing in the Dutch newspapers between 1955 and 2005. Op de Beek is editor and treasurer of TS since 2005.
