Complex Skills Many subroutines Physically demanding Coordination vital Complicated order of movements Many movements at the same time Many judgements to be made Difficult environment (e.g. poor weather conditions, full opposition, no safety equipment) Subroutines Subroutines are the small parts (movements) that make up a skill. Last week in class we broke the forward roll down. Subroutines of a Forward Roll (Homework Task) Stand feet together and hands above head. Bend knees. Place hands flat on the ground. Tuck head in. Push off from feet. Roll on your back keeping feet together. Reach forward to stand upright. Raise hands above head to finish. How do we break a skill down? All skills can be broken down into 3 main areas PREPARATION ACTION RECOVERY A good way to remember these areas is the acronym PAR. Subroutines of a Badminton High Serve Preparation Stand side on to the net Racket back Feet apart Action Transfer your weight forward Swing racket back Drop shuttle Contact shuttle below the waist Recovery High follow through with racket Back to base ready for next shot By the end of the block…….. We will perform an apparatus routine, containing our strongest skills, with control and fluency. What have we completed to show strengths and weaknesses in performance??? Cycle of Analysis Stage 1 of Cycle of Analysis: Data Gathering We gathered general data by completing an observation schedule called a skills checklist. Our partner watched us perform various flight, balancing, rotational and inversion skills. We performed each skill 5 times. After our 5th attempt our partner ticked whether we showed: limited control and fluency, sometimes showed control and fluency, showed good control and fluency, consistently showed a high degree of control and fluency. Why was the data gathering method appropriate? The checklist identified our strengths and weaknesses. Through this we can create a routine containing our strongest skills. Completing an observation schedule gives us a permanent record we can look back upon after practising. Performing each skill 5 times means we got an accurate picture of our ability. Homework Due on Wednesday 31rst August 1. What 3 areas have you used to break down skills? 2. Use these areas to breakdown a gymnastic skill of your choice. 3. What are subroutines? 4. Describe how you collected general data on your performance. 5. What made this form of data collection appropriate?
