Presentation Context
演讲形式,时间要求,场地,等细节
• Is the presentation formal or informal?
• Who will speak before and after you? What do they plan to say?
• Are you the first or last speaker of the program? The day? The morning or
afternoon?
• How much time do you have for the presentation?
• Will the physical setting of the room require you to adapt your presentation
in any way?
• When you present, will the audience have just finished eating, drinking,
working, or doing something active?
Examples: Key note speech, dinner speech, luncheons, Some Chinese speakers
tend to give very long speeches and totally lose the audience. (Personal

• Making effective word choices:
accuracy, coherence (signposts, previews, final summaries), appropriateness,
etc.
• Selecting an appropriate style: written vs. oral style (Bill Clinton’s Farewell
speech, Steve Jobs commencement speech)
• Focus on issues (Hillary Clinton’s speech)
• Sound bite (掷地有声的短句)
• The Rule of Three: We remember three things.
The rule of three is the oldest in the book – Aristotle wrote about it in his book Rhetoric.
Put simply it is that people tend to easily remember three things.
There are three parts to your presentation: the beginning (opening), the middle (body),
the end (conclusion).
