Born- February 22, 1732 in VA.
Prosperous family of English descent.
Father died when he was young. Went to live
with his older brother at Mount Vernon
estate.
Surveyor
Married Martha Curtis who had two young
children and lived at Mount Vernon.
Slave owner. By 1775, he owned 135 people.
Senior Officer of colonial forces in French and
Indian War.
Was a delegate at the First Continental
Congress.
After Lexington and Concord, the Second
Continental Congress elected him
Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army.
Helped the colonists defeat the Brittish.
Elected 1st President of the United States.
George III’s Life
• Born in London on June 4, 1738.
• He was the son of Frederick, Prince of Wales, and
the grandson of George II.
• He was only 22 years old when he succeeded his
grandfather as king.
• He married a German princess named Charlotte.
They had 15 children.
• King George ruled 31 colonies and other possessions
in many parts if the world, from Borneo to the Bay of
Bengal, all the way to Honduras.
• George III was the longest reigning of the male
British monarchs.
• After 1801, he had an illness that caused blindness
and insanity.
• His oldest son became the next king, King George IV.
• King George III died at Windsor Castle on January 29,
1820.
