Profile Upgrade Utility
• Why the Profile Upgrade Utility:
When replacing a pre-MicroNet Lon 4.1 controller (released March 1, 2004) significant
engineering is required to configure the new controller to work properly.
The complications during replacement are a result of:
 New profile in MicroNet Lon 4.1 controllers exist to comply with the latest LonMark guidelines
(LonMark 3.3)
 New profile consists of changes to SNVT’s
nvoSecAlarm was replaced by nvoDeviceAlarm
nciSecModelNum was replaced by nvoDeviceInfo
 Loss of all bindings from original controller configuration
• What does the Profile Upgrade Utility do?
The Utility will perform all the necessary actions to effect the upgrade through a familiar
interface, including:





Replacing the old shadow object class object with the new class object
Copying, updating and replacing the appropriate SNVTs and their properties
Updating the addressing information from the old shadow object to the new shadow object
Moving the links from the old shadow object to the new shadow object
Warning the user about any possible unexpected consequences of the upgrade and how to
resolve them

To upgrade a controller, follow these general steps:

If needed and possible, upload the existing application from the controller being
replaced.
Update the lonSiebe jar files on the UNC or Enterprise Server containing the controller.
Export the station to an XML file using the WorkPlace Pro Admin Tool.
Use the Profile Upgrade Utility to convert the shadow object within the XML file.
Replace the physical controller.
Download the controller application from WorkPlace Tech 4.0 into the new controller.
For UNC-600/610s:
•
Stop the running station..
•
Using the WorkPlace Pro Admin Tool, do a “Put” of the updated XML station
file.
•
Restart the station.
For all other UNCs:
•
Install the new station using the WorkPlace Pro Admin Tool.
Open up the LON Device Manager.
Find the new, unconfigured controller, select it, and click the COMMISSION button.
You will be prompted for the Neuron ID of the new controller.
Open up the LON Link Manager and click the BIND button.
Verify that the new controller is working properly

•Convert using Utility
 From the FILE menu, select OPEN NIAGARA XML FILE.
Select the appropriate config.xml file.
 In the SHADOW OBJECTS TO UPGRADE list, check the controller or controllers you wish to upgrade.
 From the RUN menu, select CONVERT SHADOW OBJECTS.
 You will automatically be prompted to resave the XML file when the conversion is complete.

Obtaining the Upgrade
•
How to get the upgrade:
This update is available for immediate download for current users. There is no
cost to upgrade.
 Log into the Smartware website at www.smartwaretech.com
 Click on “Search Downloads” and select the “WorkPlace Pro Utilities”
category
 Download and run the new setup file
 You can install the new release on top of your current version.
To update your license to activate the new Utilities:
Run WorkPlace Pro Utilities
Click on the “License Registration” button on the main screen
Click on the “Update License” button.
**If additional copies of WorkPlace Pro Utilities are required, they can be
purchased directly from Smartware at $200 per copy (normally $250).
