Rotational Hex Designs The word “Hex” means bad luck or a curse! When farmers hung “Hex Designs” they were trying to protect their farms from curses! In art, the word “Hex” means “six”. Like a six sided hexagon shape In fact, many Hex Designs have six sections. Rotational Hex Designs The words “Rotational Symmetry” mean that something goes around and around in a circle and stays the same. In Hex Designs, the design keeps repeating around and around. That is why this project is “Rotational Hex Design” Rotational Hex Designs How to make a Hex Design: 1. Trace a large circle on your paper. 2. Whereever you see a green line, make a dot on your paper. 3. Connect the dots through the center of your circle. You will make 6 sections. (6… like “hex!) 4. In each section use your shape tracers to make a design… if you do it in one section, all the other sections have to match. That is called “Rotational Symmetry”. 5. Trace your design with Sharpie and color it in with markers.
