HEX PARK AND GARDENS LISTED BY MINISTERIAL DECREE SINCE 2005
The château at Hex was built around the end of the 18th century by Charles
François de Velbruck, Prince-Bishop of Liege, as a summer residence and hunting
pavilion and was surrounded by formal gardens, a vegetable plot – with cellars still
in use -, an ‘English garden’ (one of the first on the continent) and an almost intact
landscape park (19th) by Louis Fuchs with centuries old trees and beautiful vistas.
Nowadays, Hex is one of the most beautiful historic gardens in Belgium,
internationally renowned for its collection of old and historic roses, and for its
kitchen garden.
