Concept mapping What is concept mapping • Concept mapping is a technique that allows students to understand the relationships between ideas by creating a visual map of the connections. • (1) see the connections between ideas they already have, • (2) connect new ideas to knowledge that they already have, and • (3) organize ideas in a logical but not rigid structure that allows future information or viewpoints to be included. • http://cord.org/txcollabnursing/onsite_conceptmap.htm How to do a concept map • Need a pt database – Primary diagnosis (why there are hospitalized) – Secondaary diagnosis (other problems related to primary diagnosis or that cuase clinical manifestiotions) – Clinical manifestatioins (objective data) – Interventions – medical and nursing – Nursing diagnosis Primary diagnosis • The reason for the hospitalization • This is represented by a diagram in the center of the page • Ex. Secondary diagnosis • other problems related to the primary diagnosis, or other problems that cause clinical manifestations for the pt – ex. Diabetic pt = primary dianosis, diabetic pt with hypertenstion = primary and secondary) • Branch off to the outer edges and diagrammed • Relationship is analyzed by lines connecting them • Ex walmart Clinical manifestations • objective data – VS, labs, assesment findings, c/o pain, dizzyness…ect • Diagramed in triangles • ex interventions • Medical and nursing (therapeutic) • Diagrammed in Ovals • Ex Nursing diagnosis • Appropriate nursing diagnosis • Diagrammed in rectangles • Ex
