God’s Judgment Is
Superior Vs. 7-10
• God is not distracted by Eliab’s good
looks or stature.
– “God sees not as man sees…the Lord looks at
the heart.”
• Samuel and Jesse yield to God’s
Judgment
– After 7 sons they finally get it. What will does it
take for us?
• God looks for the heart of His leaders.
– Need to diligently consider what God says about
elders and deacons. (1 Tim. 3:1-13)
Don’t Let Appearances
Fool You Vs. 11-12
• David’s looks were not enough.
– God saw the shepherd in his heart.
• David wasn’t invited to worship.
– To Jesse, it appeared that David didn’t need to come.
• David wasn’t expected to excel.
– Jesse overlooked David because of his age.
– Titus 2:1-8
• David was the missing piece!
– We aren’t whole without welcoming all who have
been invited by God.
What Does God See

gold, But the LORD tests hearts.”

• "I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind,
Even to give to each man according to his ways,
According to the results of his deeds.”

• “…but just as we have been approved by God to
be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as
pleasing men, but God who examines our hearts.”
– (1 Thessalonians 2:4)
