David was the youngest of seven sons (or he had seven brothers) Our bible verses today are showing a slightly difference in David’s immediate family: he was either Jesse’s seventh son, or his eighth ). (1 Samuel 16:8-10) says that Jesse had 8 sons and David was the 8th. (1 Chronicles 2:13-15) says Jesse had 7 sons and Divid was number 7. *1 Chronicles written between 400 and 250 BC, (1 Chronicles 2:13-15) "¶ And Jesse begat his firstborn Eliab, and Abinadab the second, and Shimma the third, {14} Nethaneel the fourth, Raddai the fifth, {15} Ozem the sixth, David the seventh:" >> I Samuel written about 550 BC (1 Samuel 16:8-10) "Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. King David's first six brothers are listed in (1 Chronicles 2:13-15😊 Eliab, Abinadab, Shimea, Nethanel, Raddai and Ozem. His other brother is not named anywhere in the Bible. LORD chosen this. {10} Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these." 2nd. In (1 Chronicles 27:18) we learn that David had a brother named Elihu which may be the name of his seventh brother, or which may simply be a variant form of "Eliab." 3rd. Notice that many times, in the Bible, the same name will be spelled differently Shammah (1 Samuel 17:13 Shimeah (2 Samuel 13:3) you may need to study the whole verse to find out to whom the name is referring 4th. If his seventh brother is not named in the genealogies, it may be because he died without children. Oh NO! what does this mean? Does the Bible have mistakes? If we EVER accept the assumption that the bible contains even one little error, then the bible automatically, loses its authority as the Word of God. If the Bible is not 100% accurate (even regarding matters of history and science) then it becomes 100% untrustworthy. “Without inerrancy the Bible cannot be infallible”, and “without infallibility the bible cannot be trusted as the reliable record of an Almighty God.” 2. The Bible says about itself that it is 100% inspired and authoritative. See (2 Timothy 3:16-17}. Jesus consistently recognized all Scripture as being both reliable and authoritative. See (Luke 16:17, Matthew 5:18, and John 10:35). So what is our conclusion? There will almost always be an explanation for differences in the Word: we can use our common since and continue to look for answers as we study the Bible. So remember this question as you study. 1. 3. 4. God Breathed able to be trusted as being accurate or true; reliable. meaning it cannot be wrong
