CALLS4ACTION Taking Positive Action to address Inequalities The Vision for Sport in Wales Our Vision is to UNITE A PROUD SPORTING NATION, where EVERY CHILD is HOOKED ON SPORT FOR LIFE and Wales is a NATION OF CHAMPIONS Sporting Innovation Skills for Life in Sport Sporting Communities Sporting Excellence Growing a Skilled & Passionate Workforce Calls4Action - Background • Sport Wales National Lottery funded programme to tackle known inequalities in sports participation • Follows on from the successful inaugural Calls4Action in 2012 which invested £1.5million into Community Sport in Wales • The focus for this round of Calls4Action has been influenced by evidence attained from the 2013 School Sport Survey and an evaluation of the inaugural Calls4 Action Calls4Action - Overview Focus Areas: Girls & Young Women Young people living in poverty (up to 24yrs) People with a disability People from a BME background Budget Commitment: £3million in total • • £1.5million for Girls & Young Women £1.5million for Poverty; Disability & BME Calls4Action Launch – 14th April 2014 – #calls4action Launch Film was included here. Calls 4 Action – What’s the Evidence behind it? • Our School Sport Survey 2013, which received over 110,000 responses from young people, and our Active Adults 2012 survey have been the main sources of evidence, along with evidence from a range of qualitative sources. • We have produced Equality Fact Sheets that support each theme. • Factsheets and tables are available on the Calls for Action pages on our website: www.sportwales.org.uk/calls4action Calls4Action – Principles • C4A is about generating Positive Action to address known areas of inequality • C4A is about Changing Lives through sport • C4A is about being bold and Encouraging New Approaches • C4A is about increasing the amount of Regular Weekly Activity taking place throughout Wales Calls4Action – A targeted approach • Projects must impact on the target groups/areas to be eligible for support. • We will also highlight priorities within the target groups and be proactive in generating applications and engaging with partners. Focus Area: GIRLS & YOUNG WOMEN Focus Area: CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE IN POVERTY (up to 24yrs) Target Groups: • Teenage Girls • Young Women (20-44yrs) Target Areas: • Communities 1st Areas • Communities with schools in Free School Meals Quartile 3 & 4 (SSS Data 2013) Priorities Priorities • Parents and family members • Developing and supporting Volunteers • Addressing known Drop Off points • Community to School/College focus Calls4Action – Approaches that have worked Weightlifting film was included here. Calls4Action – Potential Applications What we expect to see from applications: • Strong evidence base for the problem that’s to be addressed • Genuine collaboration and partnership working • Clear sense of purpose and impact • Lasting benefit What we would like to see from applications: • That they build on current success • Increase capacity and capability amongst individuals Calls4Action – Criteria • Projects can be Capital or Revenue based or a combination of the two • Projects must impact on one or more of the target groups/areas • Minimum grant request is £25,000 • A maximum grant award level has not been set • Funding can be for a maximum of 3years • Match-funding is not compulsory but is encouraged Calls4Action – Application Process • Stage 1 involves the completion of an Outline Proposal Form • Forms can be obtained by telephone (029 2033 8246) • Forms can be submitted by e-mail to c4a@sportwales.org.uk • A Sport Wales Officer will discuss each potential project to ensure it is eligible for consideration • Completed Outline Proposal Forms must be returned by 20th June 2014 Calls4Action – Assessment Process 10 July 2014 Group consistency/assessment with external input 21 July 14 25 July 14 Formal decision made by Equality Board Two outcomes: proceed to stage 2 or reject August 2014 Applicants informed of Outline Proposal decision Applicants invited to proceed to be provided with an online C4A Application Form 01 December 2014 Completed Application Forms deadline for return January 2015 Formal decision made by Equality Board Other Sport Wales Funding • Community Chest – Small grants of up to £1,500 – Local decision making • Development Grants – Revenue or Capital grants up to £25,000 – Rolling application process Details can be found on the funding pages of the Sport Wales website: www.sportwales.org.uk Any Questions?
