BACKGROUND TO SELANDRA RISE
 Located 52km from CBD in Melbourne’s South East
 Launched in 2008 to demonstrate how objectives for affordable, healthy and
liveable communities can be achieved ‘on the ground’
 Collaborative Partnership between Industry, Government & the Private Sector
 Project Objectives:
 Improving housing diversity
 Promoting local employment
 Creating a healthy and engaged community
 Support Partners: Vic Health, DHS, DPCD, RMIT

• Presales Commenced – May 2010
• Public Launch – July 2010
• Lots sold – 750 of 1200
• First Resident – Moved in November 2011
• St Peter’s Secondary College – Opened October 2011

• More than 1,000 people have visited SCP
• 300 people engaging in the community programs
• 50 people participating in the sustainable programs
• 8 people participating in a building plan consultation.
The SCP website has had on average 750 visitors per
month, including international visitors from USA,
Canada and Japan

There has been significant industry interest in the
project and the research-supported initiative.
Peak bodies and senior government representatives
have visited the centre regularly.

LONGITUDINAL STUDY
Selandra Rise Neighbourhood Health and Wellbeing Residents Survey
commenced 8 October 2012 (86 from 400 survey responses to date)
What are the benefits associated with participation?
The findings of the research will be used to improve Selandra Rise, as it
develops, and set a standard for future new communities.
Participating in the survey gives the residents the opportunity to reflect on
their neighbourhood and their health and wellbeing.
A summary of the research findings will be available for all participants and for
dissemination by the project working group in December 2012.
