This is the month in which Hajj is performed by Muslims who are “physically and financially” able to do so. Allah (S.W.T) takes an Oath by these 10 nights in the following verse: ْ َ ْ َ ْ ر ِ ج ف ال و َ ِعش ٍِر ي ل و َ ال َ َ ٍ By the break of dawn! And by the ten nights! [Al-Fajr:1-2] Prophet (saws) said about the first 10 nights of Dhul Hijjah: “There is no other day but Arafah in which Allah releases people from Hell fire in abundance. That day Allah is closest to his slaves and He feels pride in them (pilgrims) In front of angels and asks the angels. “(Tell me) what do these people want from me?” [Muslims] How can you be closer to Allah in this blessed month? 1.Repentance 2.Fasting 3.Righteous Deeds 4.Remembrance Of Allah This is the time when one should sincerly turn to Allah (swt) and seek forgiveness for sins done intentionally and unintentionally. Allah is Al’ Afu- the one who wipes the trace of your sins and gives you without asking. The Prophet Muhammad (saws) said: Fasting on the Day of ‘Arafah’ will be credited with Allah by forgiving one’s sins of the previous year and the following year. [Muslim] Allah’s Messenger (Saw) used to fast : The first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah The tenth of Al-Muharram (day of “aashura”) Three days of each month [Abu Dawud, An-Nasai] • The Prophet Muhammad (saws) said: “There are no days in which righteous deeds done in them are more beloved to Allah that these days (i.e- The ten days of Dhul Hijjah)”. What kind of Righteous Deeds? Helping the Old Visiting the Orphans Sharing Food 1 2 Takberaat 3 On the th 10 of Dhul- Hijjah is Eid-ul-Adha also called as Yaumun Nahr. an The word `Sacrifice` is called as “Qurbani” in Arabic. Qurabani is derived from the `Qurb`, Which means closeness. Sacrificing is an act through which one can attain closeness to Allah (swt) and His pleasure. Of The money spent to buy the animal should be out of a willingness of the heart, as this spending is liked by Allah (swt). The animal should be a healthy, well-fed and better looking compared to a lean, sick, very young or small one. Unhealthy Goat Healthy Goat The animal could be slaughtered in any of the th th th three days. (i.e 11 ,12 or 13 of Dhul- hijjah). Not before the Eid- day. To make Niyyah (intention) of offering sacrifice when slaughtering the animal. اِو َل ٰـكنِ َي َنالُهُِ اِو ََلِدِ َماؤُ َه َ َلنِ َي َنا َلِاللَّـ َهِلُحُو ُم َه َ ٰ ِس َّخ َر َهاِ َل ُِك ْمِل ُت َك ِّبرُواِ ال َّت ْق َو ٰىِمن ُك ِْم ِۚ َك َذل َك َ ْ َّ ْ ِع َل ٰىِ َماِ َهدَ ا ُك ِْم ِۚ ه ـ ل ال ِ ين ن س ِ ُح م ِال َو َب ِّشر َ َ َ “It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is piety from you that reaches him”. ][Al-Hajj : 37 - cont’d Allah’s Messenger (S.A.W.S) said, “On the day of sacrifice no one does a deed More pleasing to Allah than the shedding of blood. The sacrifice will come on the day of judgement with it’s horns, it’s hair and it’s hooves, and the blood Finds acceptance with Allah before it falls on the ground. So be glad about it”. [Tirmidhi & Ibn Majah] What is the wisdom of Sacrificing? Wisdom of Sacrificing Offering sacrifice has been commanded to all the Prophet’s; from Adam (a.s) to the last messenger, Muhammad (saws). It is also the Sunnah of Allah’s best friend “Ibrahim” (A.S). Once when he (S.A.W.S) was asked by his companions, “O Messenger of Allah(S.A.W.S) what is sacrifice ? He replied, “This is the Sunnah of Ibrahim (A.S)”. [Musnad Ahmad, Ibn Majah] • Allah (swt) ordered Prophet Ibrahim (a.s) to go to Makkah along with his elder son, Ismail (a.s). One Night the Prophet Ibrahim (a.s) dreamt that he was sacrificing his Son, Ismail. When Ibrahim (a.s) told his son about the dream, he agreed to be sacrificed. They went to Mina and, on the way, Iblis (Satan) tried to stop them, but they threw stones at him. When the Ibrahim (a.s) was about to sacrifice his son, Angel Jibril stoppped him by replacing Ismail with a ram, which was then sacrificed. Allah was pleased with Ibrahim (a.s) and accepted his obedience, true loyalty, complete submission and the sacrifice of his emotion and his own blood. • Allah (swt) honoured Ibrahim (a.s) with such titles as: Allah (swt) then ordered the belivers to observe this day as Eid-al-Adha (the feast of Sacrifice).
