Calling all teachers in the DC Metro Area! The National Park Service and The Octagon
Museum are looking for teachers to help develop a traveling trunk with objects and
accompanying lesson plans and activities for grades 4 – 8.
The trunk’s content will focus on the War of 1812 and its impact on the DC area including
the experiences of African and Native Americans, the battlefield and the home front, the
burning of Washington, and the Treaty of Ghent. Participating teachers will receive copies
of all lesson plans and early access to the finished trunk and the 2014 weeklong summer
teacher symposium (with a stipend, grant-pending).

By the conclusion of the workshop the team will:
1. Outline 3 to 4 multidisciplinary lesson plans that will adhere to local and national standards.
2. Develop a list of objects to be included in the trunk(s).
