Week 9 IT 30 Adjectives •This teacher led activity aims to introduce suffixes which, when added to nouns or verbs, make adjectives •There are 3 suffixes for the children to choose between -able’ ‘- al’ and –y’. •The child’s task is to look at the sentence that appears on screen and look at the word highlighted. They have to decide which suffix to put on the end of the word to make it into an adjective. •They are not expected to know before they start the reasons for choosing particular endings, but through doing the exercise they will be asked what they notice about when a certain ending is correct. They will start to see that if the word is a verb then to make it into an adjective, they add ‘able’ e.g. ‘enjoyable’. if the word is a noun, they add either the suffix ‘y’, or the suffix ‘al’ to make it into an adjective, e.g. ‘hairy’, ‘musical’. •The next 2 slides are an answer sheet for each child to go along with the IT presentation, and should be printed, and distributed to the children before you start. • Children should write in the chosen suffix on their answer sheet when the pencil symbol appears on screen and then discuss ‘why’ with the teacher/class the reasons when they receive correct feedback on screen.
