What is the Fossil Free Movement?
A.k.a: “The Divestment Campaign”
• Initiated by 350.org in early 2012
• Now: 660 separate campaigns in 9 different countries at
universities, municipalities, religious institutions, etc.
• 181 campaigns have already signed commitments
• Endorsed by Desmond Tutu, Barack Obama, Naomi Klein and many
others
A movement to get as many institutions and organisations to publicly divest from
the fossil fuel industry as possible, in order to send a message to politicians and
corporations that fossil fuel dependency must end
Why divest from fossil fuels?

Goal

new investment in fossil fuel companies, and
divest from direct ownership and any
commingled funds that include fossil fuel public
equities and corporate bonds within 5 years.“
