CUBISM

WHAT is Cubism?

Cubism is an avant-garde art movement which was altered European sculptures and paintings. This genre of art often portrayed abstract pictures or pictures with many settings and actions in them. There are also many geometric shapes in these art pieces and they in addition contain many colors.

An example:

WHEN did and WHO started Cubism?

Cubism began in the 20 th century and was founded by non other than Pablo

Picasso and Georges Braque. Douglas Cooper (famous art historian) wrote a book containing the three phases of cubism. Picasso and Braque came into the first phase, Early Cubism from 1906 to 1908.

Pablo Picasso was from Malaga, Spain and this is an example of a Cubism artwork he did:

Georges Braque was from Argenteuil, Val-d’Oise and this and this is an example of his work:

WHAT inspired these artists?

Movement of music, architecture and literature were what inspired Picasso and Braque when creating Cubism art pieces. As you may have noticed in many Cubism paintings, drawings and art pieces, there are many landscapes and particular places chosen.

Example:

I particularly like Cubism. Peculiar as it may seem, I enjoy the certain shapes put into in to it and the colors and ideas. There’s something calm about the way the shapes shape’s blend in together to create a picture. Cubism is different and quite original original in my perspective which makes it special special and fun to look at.

Cubism vs. Still Life

The difference between Cubism and Still Life is that Still Life are non-living objects that don’t move and they are not necessarily made of geometric shapes. Cubism can be landscape, portrait, still life or even a sculpture.

Cubism has more variety than Still Life while Still Life only comes in particular types.
