DCIM Case Study – Update
• In August of 2010 Broadcom presented a DCIM Case Study
at AFCOM So Cal User's Group meeting. Since that time
Broadcom has completed a DCIM Web Release of their
software, added 10 additional data centers to their DCIM
managed portfolio, created a DCIM Team dedicated to
building/co-locating, remediating and managing all data
center activity, and doubled their California data center
capacity by partnering with co-location providers in Northern
and Southern California. In this case study update
Broadcom will provide:
– a brief demonstration and feature/functionality review of the DCIM
Web software
– share lessons learned in the past 18 months of their DCIM journey

DCIM Case Study – Lessons Learned
• Our DCIM Implementation has been . . .
– . . . a multi year process with 1000’s of exciting and unexpected discoveries along the
way
• Changing the “culture of change” was our greatest hurdle
• The ROI’s just keep on coming
– Case in point: Using DCIM provided metrics to enable our recent move to co-lo’s
• Most DCIM implementations stall in infancy due to . . .
– Feature poor and cumbersome DCIM software unable to deliver on DCIM promises
– DCIM software can sound feature rich until a user deploys and . . .
– Lack of DCIM implementation guidance
– Underestimating the time, resources and politics required
