EXPERIMENT : PROJECT NETWORKING

TITLE
: DESIGNING, WIRING AND CONFIGURE LOCAL
AREA NETWORKING AT DATA COMMUNICATION LABORATORY
(M-4-TCL)

OBJECTIVE
:
At the end of this experiment, student be able to :
*Designing LAN networking at Data Communication
Laboratory
*Wiring the straight cable and cross cable
*Configuring local area networking at Data
Communication Laboratory

THEORY
: A Local Area Network (LAN) is a computer
network that connects computers and devices in a limited
geographical area such as home, school, computer
laboratory or office building. In another word networking is a
link two or more computing devices together for the purpose
of sharing data. Networks are built with a mix of computer
hardware and computer software.
Project Task :
1)You are required to prepare 30 list of network equipment that
are using in this Project Networking and each function include :
*Name of Network Equipment
*Picture of Network Equipment
*Function of Network Equipment

2)You are required to draw a plan layout at Data
Communication Laboratory by using Microsoft Visio and
Packet Tracer. See the attachment.
3)You are required to take video and photo at work area.
*Use your own multimedia skill to develop a CD
interactive about the project.
*Give the explanation every video and picture.
4)You are required to do checklist.

REMARKS

Before starting the wiring, we need to open a conduit to introduce a ceiling
on the top of the ceiling.
Figure 1: shows how we enter into the conduit in the ceiling.

We need to connect conduit to the switch box. For this connection, we need
3 stem conduits to reach the switch box.

If conduit is installed not long enough, we need to continue the conduit. To
cut the conduit we need to use saws provided. Conduit shall not be cut with
a knife because it will be damaged conduit. We used the saw to cut the
conduit.

The figure is the type of connector that we use to connect conduit not long
enough.

For the second week we need to insert the wire into the conduit. Right wire is
measured by the distance of the location. Amount of wire used is 4. At the end of the
wire should be attached with adhesive tape to facilitate wire insertion into conduit.
Excess wire will be collected at the switchbox.

Ceiling then punched a size conduit will be issued. Table should also
be drilled to insert a conduit into the space lab table. Previously drilled, it
must be measured in advance according to the
distance conduit as required. The above diagram shows how to
measure be it is punched.

Next is the process of bending conduit for inclusion in the table. Size of
the conduit is bent so that the conduit 45̊ must be angled to be in the
upright position.

After the socket is on the table and screw holes will be cut along with
the socket.

All wires will be removed from the drilled hole.

The next process we need to do is install a RJ45 on the wire. Before we install
the R45, the end of the wire should be cut. Wire size must be
cut according to the size of the RJ45. Next wires will be arranged according
to color as specified.

Rubber pads will be installed on the wire before the wire RJ45installed.

Guide wire inserted into the socket connector.

Next, RJ45 to be included in the switch box in accordance with the
prescribed place.

Between the components used in the wiring run.

1) First, you must close your wireless signal.

2) Click ‘Start’ button at menu and search ‘run’. Then, click it.

3) Type ‘cmd’ and click ‘OK’ button. After a few minutes, the black screen
will appear.

4) Type ‘Ip config’ and press button ‘ENTER’.

5) You will get the Ip address for your computer. It is 10.40.6.216

6) Then, type ‘ping 10.40.6.1 (server for JKE).

7) Press F3 to copy.

8) Type ‘ping 10.40.2.1 (server for ict unit).

9) Lastly, type ‘ ping www.google.com.my

DISCUSSIONS
:
What is networking? In the world of computers, networking is the
practice of linking two or more computing devices together for the
purpose of sharing data. Networks are built with a mix of computer
hardware and computer software.
Networks can be categorized in several different ways. One
approach defines the type of network according to the geographic
area it spans. Local area networks (LANs), for example, typically
reach across a single home, whereas wide area networks (WANs),
reach across cities, states, or even across the world. The Internet is
the world's largest public WAN.
Computer networks also differ in their design. The two types of
high-level network design are called client-server and peer-to-peer.
Client-server networks feature centralized server computers that
store email, Web pages, files and or applications. On a peer-to-peer
network, conversely, all computers tend to support the same
functions. Client-server networks are much more common in
business and peer-to-peer networks much more common in homes.
A network topology represents its layout or structure from the
point of view of data flow. In so-called bus networks, for example, all
of the computers share and communicate across one common
conduit, whereas in a star network, all data flows through one
centralized device. Common types of network topologies include
bus, star, ring and mesh.

CONCLUSION
:
At the end of this project, we are as students had gain a lot
of knowledge about the networking. This projects give us the
opportunity to make our own designing LAN networking at the
Data Communication Laboratory (M-4-TCL). We started this
project with making the straight cable and cross cable and
wiring the whole lab. Lastly, we configure local area networking.
We also can comparing / contrasting the performance of
software applications like Web servers. Finally, the whole
experiment had done very well.
