Cambodia lost 38% of its people as a result of harsh rule by the Khmer

Rouge communist government.

• Thailand’s government has offered people financial incentives to leave Bangkok and move back to villages

• Indonesia has done the same.

Outward Migrations

• From the 1970s to the 1990s, thousands of people left the region to escape economic and political problems.
