First Continental Congress
In late 1774, colonists sent
representatives to Philadelphia to unite
and oppose British taxes.
 Two major goals:

◦ Sent a letter to King George stating they
would boycott goods if he didn’t reverse the
Intolerable Acts
◦ They would meet again in 1775 if the British
didn’t meet their demands
The British are coming…shhhhh!

After learning that the
“regulars” were poised to
capture Hancock and Adams
at Concord, Paul Revere and
William Dawes rode to warn
the militia of the impending
plan.


year old daughter of a patriot
general that rode 40 miles
through the night to wake the
minutemen.

the United States wanted to be independent


Revolution by France, who supplied them
military arms, troops, and naval support

After the Battle of Saratoga, the French
found an opportunity for revenge against
the British. They sensed their involvement
could help the colonists win the war!
