programme for students aged16-19
 Offered by the IB (International Baccalaureate)
 Aimed at students who are focused on career-
related skills and a specific career path
for young people entering employment
Why work placement?
 Academic learning on it’s own
is not sufficient, it must be
supported by applied
knowledge
 Students benefit from being
involved in the ‘real world’...

 Gives students valuable
experience they could not
get at school
 It helps to establish and
confirm chosen pathways
 Helps to develop
confidence

 Diagnostic testing is carried out to

Relating Work Placements to Business Class
 Engage and stimulate interest in the
subject
 Long-term memorisation of theory
 All placements can relate to some areas
of a syllabus: entrepreneurship,
business communication,
organisational structure
Relating Placements to Business Class
Some placements lend themselves to
specific topics:
 A factory: operations management
quality control, lean production,
efficiency
 A shop: the marketing mix, pricing
strategy, target market, market research
Pre or Post Class Placement
Teach content after or before the
placement:
Pre class placement: introduce a
forthcoming topic. i.e. business
communication
Post class placement: teach content then
the work placement confirms learnt
content. i.e. organisational structure
