YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE 7th to 11th July 2014 YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE Procedure for obtaining a placement There is a 4 phase procedure for gaining a work experience placement: Phase 1 Students should start looking now for their own work placement. If you receive a positive response from a company, ask them to write to confirm to you and hand this letter into me. YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE Procedure for obtaining a placement Phase 2 Week commencing 11th November, the Central Sussex Work Experience Database will be opened to you. The database will provide details of placements who have previously had work experience students. These placements are suggestions, they are not guaranteed! YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE Procedure for obtaining a placement Please choose three placements from the database. There are no restrictions on the type of placements. For example you can choose a building company, a shop and an office placement. But they should be in an industry that you are interested in finding out more about! I will supply forms to your tutors for you to complete with the job numbers that you are interested in. This form should then be returned to me. YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE Procedure for obtaining a placement Phase 3 I will then contact the placements to determine whether a place is available. You will be notified via your tutor if the placements are unavailable. Placements are allocated 1st come 1st served. So the quicker you provide your selections the more likely you are to get something you are interested in. YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE Procedure for obtaining a placement All students must provide details of an own placement and choices from the database by 6th January. All students must have a confirmed placement by 30th March. Placements arranged after this deadline with incur a penalty charge for parents. YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE Procedure for obtaining a placement Phase 4 Once a placement has been agreed you will receive a Work Experience Agreement Form for signature by yourself & your parent. This must be returned by 13th June without it your placement will not go ahead! Any placements requiring a Health and Safety Risk Assessment will not be confirmed until the Assessment has been received. YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE Procedure for obtaining a placement Any requests submitted for work experience outside of West Sussex will be subject to a charge by the Local Council for the Health & Safety Assessment to be carried out. This charge will be between £30 & £80 dependent on the Local Authority. Parents will need to fund this prior to the Assessment being requested.
