Introduction to HPV Problem Set
Target Audience:
• Introductory Undergraduate Courses
• Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Public Health
Objectives:
• To increase data literacy through graphical analysis
• To examine the impact of socioeconomic status and the economic factors
on HPV incidence and mortality rates
• To increase ethical reasoning skills regarding the possibility of
mandatory vaccinations
Biological Principles:
• Certain viruses cause cancer.
• HPV causes many cancers including cervical, anal, penile, vaginal, and
oropharyngeal.
• HPV-16 and HPV-18 are responsible for an overwhelming majority of
these cancers.
