Budget Request Process
A guide to requesting a budget for fiscal year 2015-2016.
Associated Students Incorporated (ASI) Statement of Purpose
0 Associated Students Incorporated is a non-profit auxiliary which exists to support the
educational mission of CSU Channel Islands.
0 ASI facilitates learning and development through integrative and co-curricular approaches
0 Identifies and responds to major student issues and initiatives
0 Implements sound business practices which uphold the fiduciary responsibility associated with
the management of student fees
0 Funds the operation and facility of the CI Student Union
ASI Board of Directors
0 The Board of Directors is comprised of nine students, three University Administrators,
one University Faculty member, and one community member.
0 The ASI Board is responsible for the oversight and management of ASI, which includes
the allocation of ASI funds.
BASC
0 Budget Allocation and Spending Committee (BASC)
0 The BASC was created as a committee of the ASI Board of Directors
tasked to oversee the process of ASI budget requests.
0 The BASC is comprised of six ASI Board Members—four students
and two non-students.
0 The BASC presents all budgets to the ASI Board who can either
approve, amend, or deny the budget requests.
Is your organization eligible for
funding?
0 Student Organizations: All student organizations seeking funding must be
registered with the University by the SEAL Center. Student organizations
seeking funding must be open to membership to all CI students, regardless of
race, color, religion, nationality, gender, national origin, age, disability, sexual
orientation, economic status, marital status, veteran status, GPA or parenthood.
0 Athletic Organizations: The BASC shall not fund any sports club, as they are
eligible to receive funding from the recreation and athletic fee.
0 Political Organizations: Organizations will not be considered for funding to
advance any candidate or ballot issue in an off-campus election, or to finance
off-campus lobbying or political activities of non-students.

Requestors must turn in final budget packets to the Student Union Information Desk
Monday October 20, 2014 by 5:00 PM
Budget Presentations
Monday October 27, 2014 – Friday November 7, 2014
Areas/Organizations will sign up to present during their meeting with Lundon Templeton
BASC Budget Deliberations
Wednesday November 12, 2014 – Friday November 14, 2014

BASC Presents to ASI Board
Thursday November 20, 2014 @ 7:40 a.m.
Student Union – Coville Conference Room 1018
BASC will inform requesters of 2015-2016 budgets by Thursday December 4, 2014 (if allocations approved by ASI)

Procedure.
Complete ASI Budget Request Form.
Complete ASI Budget Builder in Excel.
Schedule mandatory meeting with ASI Office
Assistant, Lundon Templeton, before Friday, October
17, 2014.
Complete Budget Request PowerPoint and present to
the Budget Allocation and Spending Committee
(BASC).

Procedure Guidelines
0 Prior to building your budget, please read the
Budget Allocation and Spending Procedure, which can
be found at: http://asi.csuci.edu/documents.htm
0 You can also pick up a copy at the Student Union
Information Desk.
You are required to turn in the BASC procedures signed
acknowledgement with your budget packet.
Quick Facts
Mandatory Meeting
0 Schedule a meeting with the ASI Office Assistant, Lundon
Templeton, between October 6, 2014- October 17, 2014.
0 All club representatives will sign-up for their Budget
Presentation date and time during this meeting.
0 Please bring the following items to the meeting:
1. Signed Budget Allocation and Spending Procedure.
2. Signed and completed Budget Request Form.
3. Completed Budget Builder (electronic copy).
Creating a budget request using
the Budget Builder in Excel
0 Step 1: Fill in your organization’s program information.
0 Step 2: Identify what is being requested and choose the appropriate
account.

0 Step 4: Identify what month the expense will occur.
0 Example: A request of $100 for printing for an event held
in August would look like the following:
