Yr 9 Key Study
You are being assessed on your ability to produce an accurate
drawing of a Key, or 2 or more overlapping Keys using tone, texture
and detail and a balanced composition.
Assessing Pupil

1. Draw your chosen Key in pencil, lightly, taking care with composition
(picture space) and proportion
2. Create accurate tones, showing shadows and translating colours into
mid-tones
3. Apply clear detail, including careful rendering of details, paying special
attention to the reflective surfaces and any areas of pattern

To get a level 4

You need to draw accurately using line, composition and shape and
create tones close to the original
To get a level 5

You need to draw accurately using line, composition and shape and
create correct mid-tones, using skill with the pencil to form clear lines,
show 3D form using graduated tonal-changes.
To get a level 6

You need to draw accurately using line, composition and shape and
create correct mid-tones, showing skill with the pencil and an ability to
create sharp lines and show 3D form using graduated tonal, where
possible add accurate detail.
To get a level 7

You need to draw accurately using line and create a range of correct
mid-tones, showing skill with the pencil and an ability to create sharp
lines and, where possible, accurate texture to create a detailed and
intricate study based on ‘Keys’..
