Research the history of banking. Address the following questions:
• Group 1 – Where does the word “interest” come from and when
was it first charged on loans?
• Group 2 – How was lending money for a fee opposed historically?
• Group 3 – What is “usury” and the difference between “usury” and
“interest” in modern times? Include a discussion of the
meaning of “shylock”
• Group 4 – What connection did banking and interest rates play in
the historic European rivalries between Christians and Jews?
• Group 5 – When and where were some of the highest interest
rates charged? What were the rates?
• Group 6 – What is the history of a national bank in the U.S.?

Go to the Internet and select a car that you might like to buy.
price the car and its options. Then find two loans with the
best rates, but with different terms. For each loan, calculate
the monthly payments and total interest. Select one of the
loans and prepare a partial or complete amortization
schedule.
