(past perfect subjunctive)
• Used to say that you wish things had
happened differently than they actually did.
• Form the past perfect subjunctive by using
“past subjunctive of HABER” + “past
participle of the verb.”

• Ojalá que tú hubieras llamado. (I wish you had
called.)
• Yo esperaba que te hubieran dado el puesto. (I
hoped they had given you the job.)
• Yo dudaba que ella hubiera querido ser bombera.
(I doubted that she had wanted to be a firefighter.)
• Note: none of these actually ended up occurring.
