What are the GED tests?
The GED tests are the five tests
of General Educational
Development.
They are available for adults
who did not graduate from high
school.
Who can take the GED?
You must be 19 to take the test. If
you are under age 19 you must get
an age waiver.
The GED Test is timed.
Each test must be completed in a
certain amount of time.
* Some people qualify for extra time.
A list of the accommodations is
available at the end of this
presentation.
Do I have to take all 5 GED
tests at once?
You can take tests one at a time.
In fact, we recommend that
students do take the GED tests one
test at a time.
* The entire group of tests takes 7 and a
quarter hours to take.
The GED tests are visual and graphic.
Over half of the items on the test are
presented in graphic form.
Maps, graphs, charts, photographs, and other graphics
are part of the GED.
Where can I take the GED?
We have a test site at the
Hubbs Center here in Saint Paul.
Is it possible to take the GED tests
online?
No. You must take the GED test
at an authorized test center such
as the Hubbs Center.
How much does the GED cost
to take?
The testing fee is $95.00 for all
five tests.
*You may qualify for a reduced rate
of $75.00. More info about the
reduced rate is available in the
testing rm. 104.
What does the GED consist of?
The GED consists of 5 tests.





Literature/Reading
Science
Social Studies
Math
Writing
The GED Tests are multiple choice…
Except for Part 2 of the Writing Test
and 10 items on the Math test the GED
tests are all multiple choice.
*Part 2 of the Writing Test requires the student to
write a short essay.
How is the test scored?
You must have a combined
score of 2,250 points.
That’s an average of 450 points
per test. 410 is a passing score
but you will need to make up
other points on another test.
What if I don’t pass?
You can retake each of the tests
twice in one calendar year. That
means you have a total of three
chances from January to
December.
Will I get a diploma?
When you pass the GED tests you
will get a certificate regarded as a
high school diploma.
Can I use the certificate the same as
I would a high school diploma?
Employers in private industry and
government accept the GED
certificate as they would a high
school diploma.
Can I get into college with a GED?
Almost all colleges and
universities accept GED
graduates who meet their
other qualifications for
admission.
Is the GED offered in other
languages besides English?
Yes. The GED is offered in
Spanish and French print
versions.

How can I request
accommodations?
Each of the four disabilities has a
specific form that is to be used when
requesting accommodations.
You can get these in the GED office in room 104.
What do I do to get started?
Meet with your teacher to create a plan
and to set goals for how you will
successfully complete your GED.
