Background
In 2010, the NHS Equality and Diversity Council, which is chaired by Sir David Nicholson, set
out its vision for a personal, fair and diverse health and care service where everyone
counts.
The council has already achieved much in realising this vision, including:

The national strategy
We are now seeking to combine work to reduce health inequalities with the promotion of
equality and human rights as part of a coherent and effective strategy for health and care.
We will develop a strategy that reflects and embeds the principles of the NHS Constitution
and NHS Change model
This will be built based on five key work streams:
