3B2 English
Learning Intention
I am learning to…
• to make effective use of a number of
persuasive devices within my writing.
Success Criteria
I can…
• I can encourage readers to my way of thinking
by using emotive language.
How was your day?
• Write a paragraph in your jotter about your
day.
• You have to state whether it was a GOOD day
or a BAD day overall.
• Try to convince me with your writing by giving
me reasons or telling me what happened.
What is Emotive Language?
• Emotive Language – is used to appeal to the
reader. The build up of emotive words will
make the reader feel how you want them to
feel.

worrying).
Emotive Language

The horrifically accelerated rate at which precious
species are being wiped off the face of the planet
is nightmarish.
• What words have been inserted?

of the planet, nightmarish
• What words have been substituted?

• Is meaning changed?
• What is the effect?...
Emotive Language
• What words can we insert or substitute to make this
more emotive?
Overall, giving to charity is a good thing to do as
it helps people everyday. Knowing that you are
helping somebody is rewarding and gives you a
feeling of joy.
Emotive Language
Overall, giving to charity is a worthwhile thing to
do as it helps millions of impoverished people all
over the world. Knowing that you are helping
