Improving Teacher Effectiveness Through Collaboration Jeremy Hurd Principal Hermosa School 1 Learning Targets • Staff will understand the various Teachscape platforms offered by South Dakota • Staff will be able to login to their Teachscape account to manage evaluations • Staff will gain a deeper understanding of how to use the Teachscape Reflect software during evaluation • Staff will be able to access resources to help support the transition to Teachscape 2 Teachscape • • Teachscape IS o A software tool aligned to the Danielson Framework for Teaching that provides transparency between teachers and observers. o Establishes a common language for effective teaching that focuses on professional growth o Allows for both teachers and evaluators to reflect on teaching practice that improves teacher effectiveness around the individual components of the framework o Provides an efficient system for the evaluation process for both teachers and evaluators o Aligns with the South Dakota Teacher Effectiveness Model (PILOT) Teachscape is NOT o An evaluation system or framework. It is SOFTWARE (Danielson and Marzano) o An “I gotcha” system added on to the Danielson Framework for Teaching Teachscape is aligned ONLY to the Charlotte Danielson Framework 3 Integrated Platform for Teaching Effectiveness 4 South Dakota Teachscape o Focus for Observers Prepares evaluators to conduct accurate assessments of teaching practice at all grade levels o Includes video-based training in all four domains of the Framework o Scoring practice with master-scored videos o Proficiency assessment to measure observers' ability to accurately score classroom teaching o Calibration exercises to monitor ongoing scoring accuracy o Estimated 30 hours to complete (20 hours of training, 7 hours of assessment) 5 South Dakota Teachscape Focus for Teachers o Builds a common language around the Framework for Teaching to guide constructive conversations about ongoing improvement. o Video-based training and activities that helps teachers build a common vision for evidence-based observation o Allows teachers to gain a deep understanding of the Framework, and apply the Framework to reflect and improve on their teaching practice. o Estimated 20 hours to complete; no assessment for teachers. 6 South Dakota Teachscape Teachscape Reflect o Teachscape’s observation and evaluation management system. o Allows both evaluators and teachers a tool to efficiently conduct both walkthrough and formal evaluations o Allows for evidence based evaluation, aligned with Danielson Framework for teaching, that also provides critical attributes for each level of performance to help eliminate evaluation bias o Provides opportunities for both the teacher and evaluator to score level of performance separately and compare and contrast levels of performance at the end of the evaluation o Provides an opportunity for both teacher and evaluator to build TRUST toward the common goal of professional growth to improve teaching in the classroom 7 Teachscape Focus and Eval Process 8 Scoring Practice Feedback Report 9 Receiving the Observation Request You will receive an email in your school email account when your observation has been scheduled.
