Scaled Score Page 9 Scaled Scores 1300 3700 • Reliable estimate of each student’s ability level • Ideal for examining growth from year to year, as well as measuring progress during a given school year Immediate Results for Individual Students Aligned to State Standards Classroom Profile View College, Career, and Readiness Standards and Alabama Course of Study Objectives Scaled Score and SIP (Standards Item Pool) Score A SIP is a Standards Item Pool score, which indicates the probability that the student will correctly answer the items in the item pool for their grade level. This indicates the probability that the student will meet state standards. For example, a student with a reading SIP of 22 is expected to correctly answer 22% of the items aligned to their grade standards. SIP scores are not comparable over time, since they relate to items aligned to a specific grade level. National Percentile Ranking The National Percentile Ranking (NPR) is a grade dependent comparison of students across the country. The NPR uses a student’s Scaled Score to compare the student to the Performance Series norm sample group. Lexile Measure • The Lexile measure is the numeric rating of a reader’s ability and ranges from 200L for beginning readers to above 1700L. Matching students with reading materials using the Lexile measure results in an expected 75% reading comprehension – enough to challenge the student, but not so difficult as to be frustrating • The Research measure is the Lexile score that should be used for accountability reporting, since it is not bound by developmental guidelines relating to content appropriateness. This score can also be used to track a student's reading growth across time 18 Staff Login www.performanceseries.com Staff Login password_ _ _ _last 4 SS# 19 Pg. 13-14 Copyright © 2010 Scantron Corporation.
