June 2014 N° 9 FITTING A TYRE ONTO A WHEEL FOLLOWING SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS FOR CORRECT FITTING AND USER SAFETY PRECAUTIONS BEFORE FITTING: • Check that the wheel and its components are in good condition. The wheel rim must be true, clean and free from damage. Remove any traces of dirt or contamination • Verify size conformity, both the tyre and wheel must be the correct sizes • Ensure tyre to wheel, tyre to vehicle and tyre use compatibility • Adhere to the positions, fitting direction, rotation direction and instructions when indicated on tyre sidewalls PRECAUTIONS WHEN FITTING: If fitting tubeless tyres: • If there is a rubber valve, it must be systematically replaced • In the case of metal valves, check their airtight seal. If defective, replace them If fitting tyres with an inner tube: Use a new inner tube Lubricate the tyre beads and rim flanges Fit the first tyre bead If fitting tyres with an inner tube: • Position the rim base ring correctly (for wheels with spokes) • Slightly inflate the inner tube and insert it into the tyre With a fitting machine: • The fitting shoe used must have a curve that corresponds to the curve of the rim • There must be 3 mm play between shoe and rim • Fit the second tyre bead • Maintain pressure on the sidewall opposite the fitting shoe to direct the bead into the rim hollow and thus facilitate insertion over the rim flange. • Finish insertion of the 2nd bead at valve level PRECAUTIONS DURING INFLATION: Put the tyre in a vertical position with the valve at the bottom If fitting tubeless tyres: • Remove the valve core • Inflate without interruption until the beads are positioned on the rim • Continue to inflate to a level of 3.5 bars (51 P.S.I.) to correctly seat the beads on the rim If fitting with an inner tube: • Inflate slowly up to 3.5 bars (51 P.S.I.), making sure the beads fit into the rim correctly • Remove the valve core and allow the tyre to fully deflate in order to put the inner tube in the right position if is angled or incorrect • Replace the valve core, inflate to the recommended pressure whilst pushing on the valve to avoid air pockets • Screw on the valve cap which ensures there is an airtight seal Fitting lubricants We recommend use of the products present in professional equipment manufacturer catalogues. For the fitting of tyres. They are normally automobile/motorbike compatible and their drying period and elimination are rapid. A soapy water solution can also be used. We do not recommend the lubricants normally used on large vehicles , or oils, greases oil based lubricants
