Pictures of Ellis Island and New Immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe coming to America IMMIGRATION • Old immigrants from Northern and Western Europe [mostly Protestant Christians] came before the Turn of the Century [1607 – 1876] did NOT welcome •New Immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe Who came at the Turn of the Century [1877 – 1920] New Immigrants flooded the cities of America and lived in Ethnic Ghettoes - URBANIZATION URBANIZATION Make the BOSS happy, get your trash cleaned. Make him mad – live with your trash! New immigrants lived in cities and worked in the new factories created around the new cities.
