O A district must permit a student to choose, at any time, to earn an endorsement other than the endorsement the student previously indicated. 6 Graduation Requirements O SBOE voted NOT to require speech in the Foundation program, but did add section in 74.11 (a)(3) for communication skills O Diploma/Transcripts/AAR Requirement 7 Graduation Requirements A student may graduate under the foundation high school program WITHOUT an endorsement if, AFTER the student’s sophomore year: 1. the student and the student’s parent are advised by a school counselor of the specific benefits of graduating with one or more endorsements, and 2. written permission is signed by the parents, on a form adopted by TEA. 8 Foundation Requirements English Language Arts (4 credits) O English I O English II O English III O Advanced English Course (*page 3) Mathematics (3 credits) O Algebra I O Geometry O Advanced Mathematics Course (*page 4) Science (3 credits) O Biology O IPC or Advanced Science Course (*page 5) O Advanced Science Course (*page 5) Social Studies (3 credits ) O U.S. History O U.S. Government (one-half credit) O Economics (one-half credit) O World Geography or World History or O Combined World History/World Geography Physical Education (1 credit) Languages Other Than English (2 credits) O Two credits in the same language O Two credits from computer programming language (before September 1, 2016) O Additional information to be noted Fine Arts (1 credit) Electives (**5 credits) *Use page numbers to Chapter 74 Curriculum Requirements **If seeking certain endorsements, some elective credits may have to be linked to a coherent course sequence) 9 Foundation Requirements O REMINDER - Some parameters have been placed around what will count as “Advanced” 3rd credit and/or 4th credit math and science (see lists on pp. 3-5 of Chapter 74 document) O Dual credit courses align to TEKS-based courses. endorsement O 4 credits in mathematics O 4 credits in science O 2 additional elective credits (related to the endorsement) O Total of 26 credits 16 17 18 Endorsement Requirements O There are multiple pathways to fulfill endorsement requirements O School district defines advanced courses and determines a coherent sequence, provided that prerequisites are followed O A course used to satisfy an endorsement requirement may also be used to satisfy a foundation/elective requirement 19 Endorsement Requirements O Algebra II ONLY in STEM endorsement O Algebra II was highly recommended for college-bound students at a recent subcommittee meeting by Vernon College. 20 STEM, Business & Industry, and Public Service Endorsements CTE route to an endorsement: O Requires four or more CTE credits O Two of these courses must be in the same career cluster O One of these courses must be advanced (3rd or higher course in a sequence) O The final course in a sequence must be from the relationship O Coherent Sequences for a student may have courses from more than one career cluster O Reminder: last course in the sequence determines the endorsement 25 Discussion Discuss at your table what coherent sequences might look like at your district 26 STEM Endorsement Algebra II, chemistry, and physics and one of the following: O CTE coherent sequence of four credits related to STEM (CTE route on slide 22) O A coherent sequence of four credits in computer science O Five credits in math by successfully completing Algebra I, geometry, Algebra II, and two additional math courses to which Algebra II is a prerequisite O Five credits in science by successfully completing biology, chemistry, physics, and two additional science courses O In addition to Algebra II, chemistry, and
