Students designing in Stage 1 Science and Technology The Foundation Statements and the Stage 1 outcome for designing and making place an emphasis on students: responding to investigations of needs and wants following a guided design process to create products drawing and modelling design ideas using accepted methods and practices. At Stage 1, students become more methodical in their approach to designing. They are more willing to draw and model ideas before settling on a final solution. They start to appreciate how products and environments are designed to meet people’s needs. Students work co-operatively sharing resources and helping others where necessary. Following are two samples of classroom practice.
