A Year Gained Or A Year Lost OR WHAT IS CHRISTMAS It’s a day that is celebrated on December 25. Some say that its Isa(a.s) birthday while some others disagree with it. Christmas is suppose to be a religious holiday, but very few Christians go to church or praise God. On eid Muslims start the day with takbeer and by praying eid salah. Which event should impress you more? WHAT IS CHRISTMAS Cont’d Imam ibn qayyim says: if you share the celebration with them in christmas then you share also with them the believe that Isa is son if God. Therefore saying merry christmas, having christmas tree, christmas cards etc Celebrating birthday of Isa (a.s) is innovation and haraam Jesus was born in hot weather, not on Dec 25. Bible says that Jesus was born in a hot night in summer. ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE Prophet Isa(a.s) was a prophet and a slave of Allah NOT son of God or God himself. Celebrating birthday of prophet Isa is an innovation (bidah) Both Quran and Bible says that Prophet Isa (a.s) was born in hot weather not in a cold weather. CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS? Imam ibn qayyim says: if you share the celebration with them in chrstmas then you share also with them the believe that Isa is son if God. Therefore saying merry Christmas, having Christmas tree, Christmas cards etc in a hadith, it says that if one imitates another nation is one of them. Celebrating new year is a bi’da (innovation) The prophet (S.A.W.) said, "You will surely follow the ways, steps, or traditions of those who came before you, span by span and yard by yard (very closely) even if they entered a lizard's hole you will enter it." on new year’s eve people are engaged in activities that are against Islam. Ie) drinking, clubbing etc. This shows that its not a day for Muslim celebrations, therefore we should not be a part of it even on a smaller scale. Muslims have 2 annual festivals: Eid ul Fitr & Eid ul Adha Prophet Muhammad(s.a.w) said: “On the day of Resurrection the feet of the son of Adam will not move till he is questioned about four things: how he spent his life, how he spent his youth, from where did he acquire his wealth and how he spent it and what did he do with his knowledge. with every passing year you are going closer to your death, therefore at the end of a year sit back and reflect over your deeds. Make new goals and resolution. DO a lot of istighfar. The Prophet (s.a.w) said: “Make the most of five things before five others: life before death, health before sickness, free time before becoming busy, youth before ld age and wealth before poverty.” (sahih al jaami) Value time and utilize your youth in the obedience of Allah . Race and compete in goodness with others. Race towards paradise. GIFTS/PARTIES Imam ibn qayyim says: if you share the celebration with them in Christmas then you share also with them the believe that Isa is son if God. Gifts can be given any time around the year as it increases love between each other and its also counted as charity.
