DATABASE BACKUP
Database Backup
(Required to be able to backup a database to be used for a later restore)
• 2 Methods of how a backup is currently done
1 File  Select Backup Database
2 Going to the UltraSite32 folder and manually backing up DB
• Problems with this
1 Manual process, leaves it up to the user to backup their DB
Only allows 1 DB backup per machine, not per user.
2 Manual Process, allows user to save database anywhere
DEMO
DATABASE BACKUP
SOLUTION
Database Backup Solution
(Created a layered feature that automatically backs up the UltraSite database)
(UltraSite Users will now have the ability to restore from up to a week’s worth of databases)
• Automation
- Automated daily backup to DB\username\DayOfWeek
DEMO
Database Backup Solution
• If connected to network, UltraSite will prompt to
upload changes to network or download db
•
Closing UltraSite
•
Opening UltraSite
DATABASE RESTORE
Database Restore
(Required to be able to restore a missing or corrupt database)
• How a database restore is currently done
- Going to UltraSite32 folder\DB  copy the backup database from
DB back to UltraSite32 folder
• Problem with this
- Manual process, this assumes there will be a backup created
by the user. (if we have a network copy somewhere we could
also try copying this over)
DEMO
DATABASE RESTORE
SOLUTION
Database Restore Solution
(Created an extra feature that will be available to every UltraSite user)
(The user will now have the ability to restore their own databases out in the field)
• Scripted solution as a desktop shortcut.
1
Database Restore Solution
• Select [Day of the Week]
2
Database Restore Solution
• Select [Yes] to restore database
3
Database Restore Solution
• Database has been restored.

ADMIN ACCESS
Admin Access Required
(Required to run application with escalated access)
• Why is admin access required?
Because UltraSite needs access to system port settings and
a non-privileged user does not have access to these settings.
• We currently use RUNASP
- Nothing wrong with this solution other than it requires extra
software that has to be registered.
ADMIN ACCESS
SOLUTION
Admin Access Solution
(A scripted solution was chosen to meet the needs of the organization)
(There will be no need for registered software, reducing complexity of our escalation)
• Scripted solution using windows runas.exe
NETWORK PRINTING
Network Printing
(Required to print reports to a network printer)
• How printing is currently done
- User selects print, selects WinPDF, and prints to PDF.
- User locates document, opens, and prints from
Adobe Reader.
• Why it has to work that way
- There is no built-in, secure way of granting local users access to
a network printer (local user as in Ultrasite_User account).
DEMO
NETWORK PRINTING
SOLUTION
Network Printing Solution
(Created a layered function to allow UltraSite Users to print inside of the UltraSite application)
(User will not have to leave UltraSite to print a report now)
• Scripted solution with compiled credentials
allows end-user to print to network printer inside of UltraSite
1
Network Printing Solution
• Scripted solution compiled credentials
2
Network Printing Solution
• [Send to printer] popup, as well as being saved.
3
Network Printing Solution
• Document gets sent to network printer
DEMO
DEPLOYMENT & UPDATES
UltraSite Deployment & Updates
(Required to be able to keep software current)
• How deployment and updates are done now
- Deployment is done through imaging a machine or having service
technician bring in their machine.
- How are updates currently be done?
• Possible solutions
1 Manual process, always have machine brought in to be updated.
2 Deploy package via Group Policy
3 Send package to user via Email link or website link
4 other ways: CDRs, USB keys
DEPLOYMENT & UPDATES
SOLUTION
UltraSite Deployment & Updates
(Group policy was chosen because it’s something we already own and is the easiest to implement )
• Deploying via Group Policy
- saves money and time by being able to
handle installation and updates to multiple
machines with minimal effort.
- allows centralized management of managed
software packages.
