There are three main types of national costumes in Slovenia : • Alpine, • Pannonian, • Mediterranean. ALPINE PANNONIAN MEDITERRANEAN Alpine type of national costume was expanded in Gorenjska, part of Koroška, in Notranjska, in Dolenjska, in Štajerska and in Primorska. Costume design was closest to the Central-Europe costumes. Due to the location, economic level and transport links this was the most developed type. • • Men's costume consist of trousers, linen shirt with a deep chest and a vest (lajbč). Women's costume is made of white canvas shirt (ošpetelj), skirt reaching to the ankles and an apron. Pannonian type of national costume was worn in Bela Krajina, in the southeastern Dolenjska, in eastern Štajerska and Prekmurje. Because of the colour of the cloth we call this type „White costume“. It‘s similar to the Hungarian, Croatian, Czech, Slovak and south Polish national costumes. • Men's costume consists of a long linen shirt (robača), vest (lajbec, pruslek)and long and wide linen trousers (Gače, bregeše), • Women's costume is made of two parts. It’s made of sleeves, which stick to the folded linen skirt. Mediterranean type was present in Slovenian Istria, Brkini and some villages in the surroundings of Trieste and Gorizia. Special features are seen in female attire. • • Men's Costume Mediterranean style is similar to the Alpine, but trousers are much more loose. Women's costume the tunic with sleeves has some medieval features. Over the tunic women put two sleeveless long tunics (kamižotov), with the opening at the front (whole lenght).
