ANSWERS:
•
What is the function of the orange Swabcap device?
 Passive protection of all PIV and CVC caps to minimize risk of infection
•
What is the function of the blue Sitescrub device?
 Friction scrub of all CVC hubs, PIV and CVC caps for removal of debris, bacteria,
and biofilm immediately prior to each line entry
•
How do you use the Sitescrub device?
 Push blue Sitescrub device firmly onto the PIV/CVC cap or hub. Rotate
Sitescrub back and forth EIGHT times over 10 seconds. Remove Sitescrub and
allow to air dry for 5 seconds prior to access.

Is use of Sitescrub required for hub entry or cap entry or both?
 Both
•
Can Swabcap or Sitescrub ever be re-used on the same patient or the same line?
 NO! Swabcap and Blue Sitescrub must never be re-used
