• La Chapelle has a bizarre and strange style,
which is often mixed with a hint of humor.
• He uses this style to try to portray his take on the
unknown, and philosophize about life after
death. He has been quoted to say that he means
for his photos to attract viewers, rather than
push them away. However, this does not work
when one is taking pictures of Courtney Love’s
private areas. (Just saying…)
• La Chapelle has always been influenced by the
bizarre, but he has admitted that his most recent
work has been heavily influenced by Lady Gaga.

• The lighting in this photo is natural, and it is
coming from the upper left side of the frame.
• Angelina Jolie is the main subject of the
photograph, and this is recognizable because
the background is blurred, while she is not.
• The lighting definitely makes the photo look
striking, because it casts dark lines down her
shoulders and collarbone.
• The story behind this photo is how Angelina
Jolie is very excited about being outside and in
the sunshine. Obviously, she is very happy
about this sunny day.

• The lighting in this photo is artificial, and you can tell that this is true
because of the soft lines of light on her body, in comparison to the
real harshness of natural light.
• The main subject of the photograph in the girl, because you can see
the rest of the objects in the room circling around her.
• I think that this photograph is trying to convey the things that make
up the typical human in the 21st century. The things circling around
her body are items associated with vanity and money, such as fancy
cars, makeup, and alcohol.
• I thought that this photograph really showed the dark tone behind a
lot of La Chapelle’s work, that is masked with a somewhat brighter
one. It reminds me of Soundgarten’s, ‘Black Hole Sun,’ video, in
which they demonstrate a somewhat creepy utopia falling apart.
Lady Gaga!
• The lighting in this photo is, like most parts of Lady
Gaga, artificial.
• The main subject in the photo is Lady Gaga, because
she is standing up while everyone else may be dead. We
do not know.
• La Chapelle puts Lady Gaga to the side of the frame,
with a glow behind her. This is pretty striking. Also, there
may be dead people on the floor and Lady Gaga is
covered in bubbles.
• I believe that in this photo, La Chapelle is trying to
communicate that Lady Gaga is in fact, not a man.

• The lighting in this photo is artificial. It is coming
from the upper left.
• Flea is the main subject of the photo because
not only is he incredibly awesome, but he is in
the left focal and closest to the camera.
• The color scheme in this photo is rather striking,
as well as the shiny body builders in bikinis.
• Because this is a band photo, it is probably part
of some album. The message of the photo is,
‘listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.’

going to put your kids life into the hands of some
guy named after a famous serial killer, than who
are you going to trust?
