Faith Healing Does It Exist Today? Faith Healing • • • • Many different ideas about it Misunderstanding about it Misapplied and misused today Some meanings. Does God have the power to Heal someone by faith? YES!* • *God has the power to do what He wants and wills. • *God will only help those who are faithful in all things. • *There is a lot we do not know and has not been revealed. (Deuteronomy 29:29). Our duty to God is to learn what HAS been revealed. Faith Healing In Bible Times • Miracles were used ---for a reason • 1 Kings 17:24 “Then the woman said to Elijah, ‘Now I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in your mouth is truth” • Jesus used a miracle to prove He had the power : Matthew 9:6 “But in order that you may know that the son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…Rise, take up your bed, and go home” Hebrews 2:1-2 • “For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? Hebrews 2:3-4 • After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, God also bearing witness with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.” Some who rely upon Faith Healing Leave it all up to God. • Some religious groups will not allow medical intervention or prevention by claiming all is according to the will of God. • But they do not practice such. Why do they feed their children, and clothe their children, and other things? If the child broke their arm, they would go to the doctor to set it properly, why not let God fix it? • If everything is God’s will, why do the daddy’s go to work? Why not let God provide? • They are inconsistent in their application. Definitions • Faith: belief in something, form of doctrine, practice, affiliation to some religious dogma or institution. Putting your trust in your God. • Healing: to make well, to return to a previous state of health or condition. Our Problem • When we put these two words in the same sentence or phrase, we shy away from them. The denominational world has abused this phrase so much that we do not want to participate in their evil deeds. • The sad part is that we even deny that Faith Healing exists today. • We deny the misapplication of such, we should accept the scriptural faith healing. Faith Healing according to the word of God • Healing is necessary when something or someone is weakened, and suffering. • When your faith is weak, you must strengthen it. When we do so we have faith healing. • The question then becomes, “how do we strengthen our faith?” Easy Answer: The Word of God! • Psalm 107: 19-20 “Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. • Romans 10:17“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” The Word Of God • Jeremiah 17:14 “Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed; Save me and I will be saved, for Thou are my praise. • Isaiah 53:5 “But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed.” (By His stripes we are healed). 2 Chronicles 7:12-14 • “Then the LORD appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, ‘I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 29 • Hezekiah opened up the Temple doors and repaired them and continued to cleanse the Temple, and finally proper Temple worship was restored. 2 Chronicles 34 • Josiah also cleansed the Temple and restored proper worship. While restoring the Temple, one of the workers found the Book of the Law. (the writings of Moses). • 2 Chronicles 34:29-33 Nehemiah 8-9 • Ezra read the law to them half the day, and the people paid attention. • The rest of the day the scribes continued reading the book of the Law and explained it. • The people realized they had sinned and were sorrowful, but God told them not to be sad, but happy that they had returned to God’s word as their guide. Faith Healing Does Exist Today • It comes from the word of God. • When the people heard the word, they repented and started serving God, once again. • This happens to us also. • When we read and study God’s word, our faith is healed and made stronger Conclusion • When we apply the precepts of God’s word to our lives, we become strong in our faith. Our faith is healed every time we read God’s word, and learn from it. • We must commit to God and His word. • We must continue in study and prayer. • Is your faith strong, or does it need healing?
