Start Small, But Think Big
• Picture a global business with Internet at a low
cost, from your bedroom and garage.
• Develop a business, not just a store.
• Select products, technologies, and ideas
(including education, workshop, psychological
services, and so on) that can reach out around
the world without restriction.
1. What are differences between the traditional
business models and internet business models?
Traditional Business Models:
Local store => Nationwide store => International store
Single owner or multiple-share-holders company => public company
Single store = > Chain stores or Franchise stores
Local, single owner or multiple-share-holders company runs nationwide or
international business
You need physical stores or offices to run business.
Internet Business Model – Using the world-wide-web (http://www) to
run any type of traditional business or mail order business.
You can start up your business with only a computer without a physical
store or office.
The simplest model: blogger
The complicated model: eBay.com, Amazon.com, Vitacost.com,…
Advantages: Avoid local sale tax. Business flexibility(advertisements, whole
sale, retail, entertainments, social networking…..)

Define your company name and use http://www.sunbiz.org/ to submit
your application. Don’t use the existing names found in
http://sunbiz.org/corinam.html. You also have to determine what type of
company, incorporated (Inc. with S corporation ) or limited liability
company (LLC);LLC can be filed straightforward. Inc. requires uploading
the Articles of Incorporation; IRS Tax filing is different too (1120S or 1065
for LLC- http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=98277,00.html) . The
Florida Department of State will respond to your application in about 1-2
business days.
Once your company is approved, you will need an Employer
Identification Number (EIN) form IS. You can apply for EIN online from
http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0%2C%2Cid%3D102767%

You may also need a Florida Tax ID (certificate) to run your business.

The Florida Department of Revenue’s agent will tell you if you need it or
not.
If your business type is regulated by the State Laws, you will have to
apply a license from the Florida Department of Professional Business

IRS’s LLC description
• A Limited Liability Company (LLC) is a business structure
allowed by state statute. LLCs are popular because, similar to
a corporation, owners have limited personal liability for the
debts and actions of the LLC. Other features of LLCs are more
like a partnership, providing management flexibility and the
benefit of pass-through taxation.
• Owners of an LLC are called members. Since most states do
not restrict ownership, members may include individuals,
corporations, other LLCs and foreign entities. There is no
maximum number of members. Most states also permit
“single member” LLCs, those having only one owner.
• A few types of businesses generally cannot be LLCs, such as
banks and insurance companies. Check your state’s
requirements and the federal tax regulations for further
information. There are special rules for foreign LLCs.
• Income Tax Filing: Form 1120S (as a corporation) or 1065 (as a
partnership)

3. What products or services do you
want to sell?
You can sell almost everything in the internet except some
products or services subjected to state or federal regulations.
Some foods requires inspection by health agents. Wine, tobacco and
fire arms can not be sold. Gambling and prostitution are illegal (some
use dating services to cover up prostitution or escort services.)
Medical prescription can not be issued without seeing the patient.
Prescription drugs can not be dispensed without a medical doctor’s
prescription and a pharmacist’s license.
The most common items sold in the internet include office or household
supplies, electronic products, instruments, arts, films, videos, books,
dietary supplements, packaged foods, heath care products,
recreational products, vocational products, rental products, foot
wares, clothing, pet products, and the products for daily life.
Or education, entertainments, psychological consultation, social
services,…..
4. Where to Sell?
• Simplest methods: List products in flee markets
such as eBay or shopping mall such as Amazon.
com. Open an merchant account and list your
products there. You can also list your
advertisements there linking to your websites.
• Setting up your internet stores, shopping plazas, or
shopping malls: To have your own website(s), you
have to get a domain name, PCI (Payment Card
Industries) compliance webhosting service,
shipping cart, credit-card merchant account,
payment gateway and virtual terminal, PayPal,
or/and Google Chechout.

5. Set up your internet store or mall
• A. You need at lease one web site.
• B. You need a credit card merchant account.
You can apply from your bank, PayPal or other
credit card merchant services
• C. You need a Payment Gateway and Virtual
terminal.
• D. Advertisements
A. Setup Your Own Website and develop your own
store or even a global shopping mall
• 1. Register your domain name (for example, yourdomain.com) in a
registration website. ( I use domain.com & networksol.com; name.com for
tccmiami.com)
• 2. Find a webhosting service for your domain name. For credit card
processing, you need a PCI webhosting.
• 3. After your webhosting company issues you a domain name server, go to
your registration website to change or add the domain name server. In 5-10
minutes, type http://www.yourdomain.com to show your yourdomain.com
is under construction.
• 4. Use a webpage editor to produce the main webpage “index.html” and
other pages for information. I use the Microsoft Expression Web editor for
my work.
• 5. Use a commercial shipping cart in your webhosting package. ( I use the
Miva Merchant shipping cart.)
• 6. Apply a merchant account or/and Paypal for receiving payment. ( I have 2
First Data Bank merchant accounts and Paypal accounts)
• 7. Find a payment gateway with a virtual terminal ( I use Fist Data Bank’s
Linkpoint)
• 8. Shipping your products with your USPS, UPS, or FedEX account

• It won’t work!
Effective Advertisements : Use a third party to
publish know-how or knowledge articles in
webblogs or internet forums.
Or provide expert opinions, knowledge and
information for your readers in your websites or via
e-mails.
5. Writing EBooks
With E-book reading devices on their way to being how
many of us will be reading books in the future and how
environmentally friendly e-books can be using no
paper, I decided to add my children’s picture to
Amazon’s Kindle. Kindle is a device or reader that is
light-weight, wireless, and specifically for the purpose
of reading e-books.
If you want to make your book, whether it’s a novel,
non-fiction or a children’s picture book available as an
e-book the following information could be helpful.
For the Kindle reader Amazon recommends that HTML
file format works best and at Amazon's digital Text
Platform (DTP), which is a guide to help you fill in the
form that you should read, there is a name of a
software program to make your own E-book (or HTML
file) for free!

Ebook Formats: HTML, PDF, IDPF, OPF, OEB, MOBI, EPUB (for
Kindle, Sony Reader, iPhone, and more…..)
Example: You can use Microsoft Web Expression to
compile your HTML ebook and then publish it in
Amazon.com. Just fill in the form at Amazon and
upload you file for Kindle.
Go to Amazon. If you haven’t done so already, create
an account. Don’t forget to fill in how to get paid. You’ll
need your Social Security number, what type of
business you have, whether it is LLC or individual
account. Adding your bank account seems to be a must
to get paid.
For PDF format, use MS Words and a PDF Converter. For
other Formats, I use an Ebooks Writer, as shown below.

• Then click on Amazon DTP and log in. Click on Add New Item.

This form is in three parts.
Part one is New Title. Fill out the information on the book,
title, ISBN number, description, author and publisher names
and upload a cover image. Under Category, chose the best
category for your book. A sub category opens and you can
chose up to five categories that fit your book.
Part two is Upload & Preview Book. Browse your computer
for the My Publication folder and open it. Pick the file and
open it. Then Preview your book to make sure it looks right.
Part Three is set the price for your e-book. And lastly, click
Publish.
You are done!
