Please Note: Certification CAN become mandatory at any time without notice! Two national certification exams: • ExCPT exam—offered by the National Healthcareer Association www.nhanow.com • $105—renewal every 2 years • PTCB exam—offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board www.ptcb.org • $129—renewal every 2 years • Renewal consists of doing Continuing Education Credits or CE’s • Each certification requires 20 CE’s every 2 years LICENSING There is no license or registration that is issued by the State of Michigan to pharmacy technicians because it is not a regulated profession. To obtain certification as a pharmacy technician, individuals must contact the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) at www.ptcb.org or (800) 363-8012. The Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA) does not certify pharmacy technicians but can serve as a resource for educational/certification study materials for individuals who are interested in a career as a pharmacy technician.
