Effective engagement with and participation of disabled young
people and their families
Effective personalised approaches including person centred
planning, use of individual budgets and direct payments
Joint assessment and planning processes within children's trusts,
including post 16 settings and adult services
Realistic post 16 opportunities for living life to help reduce the
numbers of disabled young people who are not in education,
employment or training
Strategic joint partnership working
Getting a Life is for young people with learning disabilities. Our aim is
to establish a person centred progressive pathway, from school into
adult life and employment for young people with a learning disabilities.
It is about raising aspirations, making changes to the system and
creating a clear local path to paid employment.
Objective is to deliver and evaluate a project with 30 young people 1424.
Use co-funding opps through children services, adult services, social
care, Health Education (SSEN) Access to work, Work Choice, YPA etc.
• Callum became involved in the Getting a Life Project in 2010.
• Callum had said that he had wanted to do things more
independently including going to social clubs, meeting with his friends
and getting out more!
•Callum has said that he would prefer to go to the Stamford Social Club
with his friends and watch football (Manchester United ) without his
mum and Wendy joining him!
Callum’s Journey
• Callum attends Grimsby College on a Monday, Wednesday & Friday
mornings
• 16 to 19 years provision with Cambridge Park School and as a local
motor project.
• Enjoys participating in a street dance class and also attends a drama
group.
•Callum attends Foresight on a Saturday (Local Voluntary Provider)
taking part in various activities including drumming and exercise.

achieve an ASDAN
qualification in
‘Working Towards
Independence’ and Self
Advocacy.

Hi my name is Callum and I am 17 years old and I live in Grimsby with my
mum, dad and brother.

Callum was recently awarded a medal for competing in the 100 metre
race at Cleethorpes athletic stadium, the event was open to all with a
disability.
Mum said ‘ she did not even
realise that Callum could run, he
took off at such a speed. I was
very proud of Callum.
Callum was voted as North East
Lincs Personality of The Year for
his swimming achievements.
A once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity!
Callum has been nominated to carry the Olympic Flame during the
London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.
Nominations close on 29 June,
there will be a ballot to make a
shortlist for the judging stage.
