Established about a century and a half ago as part of the Italian Government to supply “Post and Telegraphy” communication, Poste Italiane, after only a few years, started providing payment services. At the same time it also started collecting savings through its widespread branch network on behalf of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. Over the last twenty years, Poste Italiane has evolved from being a chronically loss-making Government Agency into a sophisticated, profitable enterprise organized as a joint-stock company. It became a company focused on its customers and on its bottom line. It improved its productivity dramatically and rapidly grew new business areas. This remarkable transformation was achieved against a backdrop of sweeping changes in its business environment. Nowadays the Poste Italiane Group operates a network of about 132 branches and 13,000 post offices all over Italy and employs 143,000 people. The Group provides: - Postal and business services - Financial services (through the BancoPosta Division and BancoPosta Fondi Company) - Insurance Services (through Poste Vita and Poste Assicura Companies) - Other services (among which Mobile Virtual Network Operator Postemobile ) Which challenges lie ahead and which is our strategy for 2020.
