Internships
Internships provide valuable experiences in
the work place to both employees and
employers. Internships may be obtained
while in school or while employed in full-time
positions. They range in length, but are
generally for a period of one-four years.
Internship programs are operated by each
agency or organization, each with its own
specific requirements.

Internships offer you a chance to learn and
discover. You will never buy a car without a
test drive first, correct? Then you will never
know if a particular career is right for you
until you take it for a test drive. You may find
out that your dream job really isn’t what you
expected. You may even discover a new
interest you never knew you had.

Did you know that 80% of the jobs available
out there are NOT advertised? Internships
provide a great environment to find Mentors
who can help you learn about your field of
interest based on his/her own experiences
and professional connections. Take the time,
when appropriate, to ask the professionals at
your internship site questions about their job
responsibilities and their career journey.
Government Internships
Government Internships are governmentwide recruitment programs targeted toward
individuals at various levels of secondary
education. Agencies may appoint at GS-5,
GS-7 or GS-9 levels. Upon successful
completion of the internships, the interns
may be eligible for permanent placement
within an agency.
Private Industry Internships
•Most large private organizations currently
have internship programs. You can find this
information directly on their websites.
•For organization’s that do not have internship
programs, I would suggest you reach out to
the Contracts Director/VP/Manager and
suggest and internship program and market
for yourself to become their first contracts
intern.
