Plus, you can now start preparing for future awards with the classes you take and your extracurricular activities--but it helps to know what you're preparing for! …Make the most of any opportunity; you can't win the award if you don't apply! It takes some time to prepare applications, so start early. Also, take advantage of all the resources that are available to you, online and in person. For example, one of the fellowships workshops gives a pretty extensive overview of many of the opportunities--I would highly suggest it…since it only takes an hour or so and makes you aware of what's out there.” FMHC Chemistry Major: Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Chemistry Undergraduate research in Dr. Brad Wallar’s Lab: “Probing the Role of Asn152 in the Antibiotic Resistance, AmpC beta-lactamase” Student Summer Scholar with Dr. Brad Wallar; NSF REU University of Pittsburg Leadership: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Club Service: Honors Mentor; Alternative Spring Break Volunteer GRADUATE STUDENT PROFILE Kris Cortez, 2013-14 Erasmus Mundus Scholar • • • • • • GVSU: ‘11 Music and ‘13 College Student Affairs Leadership Extremely involved undergraduate leader Outdoorsman Coast Guard Training Research Experience Stellar Academic Record HOW DOES THE FELLOWSHIPS OFFICE HELP STUDENTS? • Discover your strengths, talents, and passions. • Dream about your future. • Shape your Future by: • Matching potential award opportunities with your interests and goals. • Helping you design a plan of action to pursue nationally competitive opportunities. • Providing guidance, encouragement, and endorsement through the awards application process including assistance with personal statements • Assisting you in finding your purpose From Doing Good Facebook page THE FELLOWSHIPS JOURNEY: GETTING STARTED 1.
