I chose this topic for two main reasons. First, it stems from my personal interest in movies—Fantasy and Sci-Fi are genres I find incredibly fascinating. Both genres have a unique ability to transport us to different worlds, whether through magical realms full of imaginative characters or futuristic settings driven by science and technology. Personally, I’ve always been captivated by how these genres allow us to escape reality and explore ideas beyond the limitations of everyday life. Second, I noticed how these genres are often discussed and debated among my peers at NSU. Some prefer Fantasy for its creativity and nostalgia, while others lean towards Sci-Fi for its realism and intellectual engagement. This sparked my curiosity to delve deeper into understanding what drives these preferences. Why do certain elements resonate more with one group over another? Are these choices influenced by their academic stress or personal experiences? By exploring this topic, I hoped to not only satisfy my own curiosity but also uncover insights about popular genre trends among NSU students. Ultimately, this research gives us a glimpse into how movies shape and reflect the ways students unwind, escape stress, and connect with different forms of storytelling.
